The time has come! Our new experimental ski film kOnneX by filmmaker extraordinaire Hanno Mackowitz with original ?sound design by Marcus Loeber is now online, free of charge! Take five minutes ?timeout and immerse yourself in powder snow.

Ski films present perfect sequences, everything looks so easy and elegant; the line, the conditions and the skier’s skills, everything is in perfect harmony. That’s why it is easy to forget how large and difficult a task it is to make all the elements come together perfectly.

The real attraction to the sport comes from the relationship between the rider, his or her skills, and the environment, which when combined, make for exceptional experiences in often cold and hostile surroundings. kOnneX is the continuation of last winter’s experimental film Lorraine. The Movie. Unlike other ski films, this film’s focus is on the perfect interaction between the individual elements of snow, ski and skier, and the resulting fluidity when these elements are connected. The film doesn’t require dialogue; the long-lasting impression is forged in the sound effects and music, which have been composed specifically for this film.

Make sure you plug in some good quality speakers or earphones to get the full experience.

Filming for Shades of Winter

I started filming for the all-girls ski movie „Shades of Winter“ at home in Zürs am Arlberg this week. Janina Kuzma from New Zealand joined me here to film some big mountain lines, cliff drops, powder turns and pillow lines. I’m really excited to be part of this project since filming for the all-girls ski movie „As We Are“ in 2010. Although we haven’t had significant snow falls at the Arlberg during the past 10 days, the cold temperatures and windless weather have preserved the snow beautifully. There was a lot of sluff in the bigger lines with very stable conditions. Filming this week also provided me with ideal training for the upcoming comps in March.

Women’s Freeride & Yoga Camp 2013

I’m really excited to let you know that together with my outerwear partner KJUS, I’m directing the Women’s Freeride & Yoga Camp this winter from 27 to 29 January 2013 in Lech am Arlberg. Bookings are now open on the KJUS World website! The all-inclusive camp is directed at advanced female skiers. This year local ski guide Geli Häusl will be guiding and coaching with me. There are going to be 14 spots available so grab your spot now.

Women’s Freeride & Yoga Camp 2012

The Women’s Freeride & Yoga Camp with KJUS and Kästle Skis from 18 to 20 March this year was a huge success! I was very proud to welcome the 12 participants who had applied for 2 days freeriding in one of Austria’s best freeride areas, Lech Zürs am Arlberg. When I first started directing women’s camps in 2007 it was hard to get a group of female skiers together, now we had two fully booked groups of ripping women, raring to go! Local Hero Geli Kaufmann and I guided the women during the camp and many new friends were made.

Lots of new friends were made at this year’s Women’s Freeride & Yoga Camp in Lech

A lot of the participants were experienced off-piste skiers and also enjoy ski touring, but only rarely with other women. It is a great experience to ski in a female-only group, the group vibe is incredibly supportive and hugely encouraging, a perfect environment for learning new skills and improving confidence. The camp this year focused on skiing some great runs together and honing off-piste skiing technique. Participants were able to test the newest KJUS jackets and Kästle freeride skis. A guided Yoga session was offered for optimal recovery the following day, and participants really enjoyed the wellness-area and good food and wine in our Hotel Kristberg. We were even accompanied by professional camera man Carsten Darr for a day, check out the video below! I hope to make next year’s camp even better so sign up to my newsletter to stay informed.

It was filmed and edited by Hanno Mackowitz, with whom I worked with for the first time during the Warren Miller shoot at the Arlberg in 2009. He did an awesome job. AS WE ARE in Lech am Arlberg

Our girls ski movie „AS WE ARE“ presented by Gore-Tex® was shown in the Postgarage this Thursday in Lech am Arlberg. It was pretty funny because after having toured around with Warren Miller for 2 years to places like Boston, Berlin and Hamburg where there were sometimes over 2,000 people per show, I was so nervous! Would there be enough people there? Would they like it? Did our camera man/director/cutter Mathias Bergmann have to use that drop of me where I didn’t know where I was going…and so on. In the end there was no reason for worry, the audience loved the movie and how motivating it is to start freeriding and doing some fun airs and pillows. People enjoyed finding out more about each of the athletes and how they came to be the skiers they are today. The venue itself was awesome, the perfect place for a film night. Big thanks to my sister Tamara for these pics!

Warren Miller Film Shoot @ Lech Zürs am Arlberg

Last year I was lucky enough to film a segment for Warren Miller’s „Dynasty“ in the Lyngen Alps, the very north of Norway. So when Kästle told me I was to film with Warren Miller again this season, what’s more in my home town, I felt like the luckiest person on earth.

For once, snow and weather conditions totally cooperated, the film shoot from 7th to 17th March was a huge success with cold powder and one sunny day after another. My Kästle buddies Karine Falck-Pedersen and Hugo Harrisson were with me, and I found myself guiding the crew including camera director extraordinaire Tom Day and camera assistant Hanno Mackowitz to my favourite spots around Lech Zürs.

The segment will touch on the long history of skiing at the Arlberg, as well as my own family history in Lech, which goes back 400 years. One of the oldest families in Lech, the Huber family resided in the „Huberhus“ for 200 years, one of the oldest buildings in Lech and currently a museum.

And here's a taste of what's to come in next year's Warren Miller movie!
